It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Major Reunion for Fans

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will likely occur in a future-set scene, as the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This signifies the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in pivotal roles:

• Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

In other news, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

1. Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
