The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year. The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles title. A Year of Consistency Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final. The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year. In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago. Historic Achievements Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a record £11m in prize money. She earned nearly eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media. On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence". Additional WTA Award Winners Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking extended hiatus following the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season. Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18. Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second career Grand Slam title together. Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
