Well beyond 14 days subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the pair. ‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt prepared to share openly about his personal sorrow. "Enough time has passed that I can now put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life." The actor shared archival material from the movie, commenting that he could not remember "any day without mirth". "The film is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes continued. He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you." Martin Scorsese Recalls a Fellow Artist In a different tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s. "Immediately, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said. Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist. "He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese noted. Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted This week, a Los Angeles judge ruled to block the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the LAPD. A legal directive placed a restriction on the investigation to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" connected to the active case. The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the result of foul play, with a public database noting the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries". Response and Criticism After the deaths, public individuals offered varying responses. Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing divisive statements that were broadly criticized by many commentators. Podcaster Joe Rogan added his criticism to the detractors last week. Talking on his show, Rogan characterized the comments as "disturbing" and suggested they revealed a concerning absence of compassion. Rogan concluded by suggesting that an aide ought to have acted when the impulse to weigh in on the passing was made.
